Dan Dare - Eagle Annual No 3
Off duty at the Interpanetary Space Fleet Headquarters Dan Dare settles down to catch up with his correspondence. He is interested in a letter from his housemaster, now head of his old school.
The classic Dan Dare strip from the third Eagle Annual can now be found in the History section.
These are scans from the original annual. Hopefully they will entice you into the world of Dan Dare and to purchase the excellent Titan reprint series from the Eagle.
Comic book artist Chris Weston has produced a series of designs for a new range of 12” action figures
Best known, by me at least, for his work on ‘Ministry of Space’, Chris Weston was commissioned to produce the designs by Underground Toys Ltd.
Chris says, “The figure will be as faithful as possible to the original 1950’s character, as created by Frank Hampson… and I have received some input by Mr. Barzilay himself, Britains foremost Dan Dare expert, to help get it as accurate as possible”.
Chris loves Dan Dare, having turned down drawing the latest Virgin Comics Dare re-hash, when he found out that the original Frank Hampson designs weren’t going to be used.
Good on him.
House of the Dead: Overkill
Classic zombie shooting comes to the Wii.
There are three arcade gaming genres that I care for. Arcade platformers, vertical shooters and anything that involves a bloody big gun.
The ‘story’: Take two blaxploitation cops, Special Agent G and Detective Washington, and give them a vocabulary of mainly expletives. Pop up increasingly gory hand cannon fodder every second or so and… and, erm, well that’s it.
This one really isn’t for kids. Although the blood and guts is normal fare for a game like this, the swearing in the game is really over the top.
Utterly brilliant ‘on-rails’ shooting fun.
If you really want the full on arcade effect (minus any meaningful recoil from the Wii remote), then buy a HOTD Hand Cannon. Forget the Wii Zapper it just doesn’t cut it in HOTD land. In gleaming white, the Hand Cannon is immense, really big, you know, Dirty Harry-esque.
It’s quite light without the remote plugged in, but once it is and the nunchuk is cabled down the back of the gun handle, it’s pretty well balanced and weighted. It also brings a smile to your face. You big kid.
A good successor to the Namco G Con 2 Light Gun.
